30 JANUARY 2013 - NEW YORK CITY
WHISPER client Richard Sexton has been selected by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for 2013 New Year's Honours, and awarded the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, or MBE.
The MBE Honour recognizes Mr. Sexton's "services to UK charitable work, particularly for children and to the British and Commonwealth community in New York," through his work on behalf of St. George's Society of New York and through his organization, CAPTAIN'S KNOCK, on behalf of British charities in New York.
Mr. Sexton is a partner with the global real estate services firm, Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, and is based in New York.
The Honours system recognises people who've made great achievements in public life and people who've committed themselves to serving Britain. Their achievements make life better for others and they are outstanding at what they do.
Upon receiving news of the award Mr. Sexton reacted:
It is a source of immense pride for me to receive this MBE in part as my Great Grandfather received an MBE in 1951 from King George VI, and my Grandfather an MBE in 1956 from Queen Elizabeth II.
I'm so very proud our hard work has been acknowledged in this way.
Mr. Sexton describes his philanthropic efforts:
My organization, CAPTAIN'S KNOCK, was launched in 2008, in realization of a life long dream of mine.
Since then we have raised over $750,000 through our Legends events benefitting the leading children's medical research and London-based charity, SPARKS, and other British affiliated charities engaged in the United States.
The British Consul-General to New York, Danny Lopez, added:
I congratulate Mr. Sexton on his well-deserved honour.
His award is an acknowledgement of the significant contribution he has made, through his philanthropic activities and work for the British community in New York, to strengthen the special relationship between the UK and the United States.
Among his many community service endeavors, Mr. Sexton serves on the board of directors of St. George's Society of New York, a philanthropic icon founded 1770 in New York City:
I took up the challenge of expanding membership among young professional British and Commonwealth expatriates, which in 2011 led to the launch of GEORGE.
GEORGE has been a great success with our events attracting support from British brands such as BBC America, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, Ted Baker, and Thomas Pink.
At WHISPER, we congratulate Richard Sexton on his well-deserved honour.
We know him well, and know the communications properties, now growth assets, of which he speaks in propelling his philanthropic efforts forward: GEORGE and CAPTAIN'S KNOCK.
Because we created both.
