WHISPER Creative Chairman Plans White House Visit

To Honor 5,000th Point Of Light Award Recipient

JULY 14, 2013 - NEW YORK CITY

On Monday, July 15, President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will host former President George H. W. Bush, former First Lady Barbara Bush, and members of the Bush family for an event to honor the winner of the 5,000th Daily Point of Light Award.

Also participating in Monday's ceremony will be Michelle Nunn, CEO of Points of Light, Neil Bush, chairman of Points of Light, and members of the Points of Light governing board.

"This ceremony is a significant moment to the movement for which President Bush offered inspiration during his inaugural address in January 1989, by offering the vision of a "thousand points of light," and inviting the nation to take action through service to their fellow citizens," said Steve Cranford, Creative Chairman of New York-based WHISPER, and a member of the Points of Light board.  "It is a unique honor to participate in this event."

President Bush established the Daily Point of Light Award for individuals making a difference.  During his administration, President Bush recognized more than 1,000 volunteers as "points of light," advocating that "points of light" demonstrate how "a neighbor can help a neighbor."  The award is now administered by Points of Light.

Points of Light – the world's largest organization dedicated to volunteer service – mobilizes people to take action that changes the world and recognizes individuals making a difference through community service and volunteerism.

The ceremony with be available by live stream broadcast from The White House, scheduled at 1:45 PM Eastern on Monday, July 15.
